Dixit is a game unlike any other, and although it shares some elements of other games, playing it is an entirely unique experience. It has been described as a storytelling game, and is limited only by your imagination.
The game consists of 84 beautifully illustrated oversized playing cards. The images on these cards are strangely compelling. Each player begins the game with eight cards. On your turn you become the storyteller and must select one card from your hand and without revealing it, describe it in some way. This can be a single word, a sentence, or perhaps a more involved story.
All the other players then must choose a card from their hands that they feel best fits with the storyteller's description. They hand their cards face down to the storyteller, who shuffles them along with his own and then places them face up on the table. The players then must try and guess which card was in fact the storyteller's.
Now here's the kicker: If everybody picks the storytellers card, then he gets zero points, for his story was too obvious, but if nobody picks his card he still gets zero points, for his story was too obscure. So the storyteller wants at least one person to choose his card, but not everybody. The challenge is telling the right story.
Of course the other players will earn points if their cards are picked by anyone.
The beauty of this game is learning to craft a story that will enable just one or two people to guess your card, and this can be quite a challenge. The variety of images will allow you to play this game over and over again.
Recommended for ages 8 and up, for 3 - 6 Players and plays in about 30 minutes.
The Games Capital recommends this because: Dixit also won the coveted Spiel des Jahres (Game of the Year) in 2010. We guarantee you won't have played anything quite like it, this really gets the imagination going.
